Providing Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (Unit 305)
The role of the IMCA within the Mental Capacity Act 2005 requires advocates to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to provide this service. This unit covers topics including working with decision makers, challenging decisions made by the decision maker, writing statutory reports, and working with people who lack capacity who meet the referral criteria of the service (accommodation; serious medical treatment; care review; and adult protection referrals).
A4A deliver the IMCA specialist module in two ways, either as a 'Conversion' for those who have already completed the DoH 4 day IMCA Induction coures, or as a 4 day course for new IMCAs.
