Providing Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy - Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. (Unit 310)
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards came into effect in April 2009, having been introduced under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
This Unit will enable candidates to gain an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevent sections of the Mental Health Act. Candidates will understand how and in what circumstances an IMCA DOLS can be instructed. The roles and responsibilities of the role will be examined in detail. Building on this, the course will look at how to work with and support people who may require an IMCA DOLS.
IMCA DOLS need to be able to produce reports which meet statutory requirements, and this, as well as data protection issues, will be addressed.
Finally, the course will cover how and when to challenge decisions, including both informal and formal challenges.
