Office of the Public Guardian - New Panel of Deputies
On the 16th August the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG ) will begin a campaign to recruit a new Panel of Deputies.
Under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deputies are appointed by the CoP to make decisions relating to the property and financial affairs of people lacking the capacity to make these decisions for themselves. The CoP will refer to a member of the panel to act as Deputy in the rare circumstance that no other party can be found who is willing, able or suitable to perform the role.
The OPG?s panel of deputies was created to safeguard the interests of some of our most vulnerable clients: some of these clients live in isolation; some live in a situation of intense family conflict; many have very limited funds. Applications for membership are invited from organisations and individuals with the knowledge and the capacity to undertake deputyship duties for multiple clients. Successful applicants will demonstrate that they can perform these duties to a high standard of diligence and care.
The OPG particularly interested in applications from third sector organisations.
